Rock and Metal History, a day like today May 28


1966: All four Beatles spent the day with Bob Dylan in his room at the Mayfair hotel in London, England, watching rushes of D.A. Pennebakers's forthcoming documentary film, Don't Look Back, which covered Dylan's 1965 concert tour of the United Kingdom.

Out of Our Heads by the Rolling Stones was #1 on the album chart followed by the former #1 album Beatles VI.

Love appeared at the Whisky A Go Go West Hollywood, California, supported by The Doors.

1969: Creedence Clearwater Revival debut on UK chart with Proud Mary

1973: Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of The Moon was on both the UK and US album charts. It remained in the US charts for 741 discontinuous weeks from 1973 to 1988, longer than any other album in history. (After moving to the Billboard Top Pop Catalog Chart, the album notched up a further 759 weeks, and had reached a total of over 1,500 weeks on the combined charts by May 2006).

The Carpenters released the single "Yesterday Once More".

1981: Clash begin seven nights of gigs at Bond’s in New York

1983: The four day US Festival '83' took place in California, featuring The Clash,U2, David Bowie, The Pretenders, Van Halen, Stray Cats, Men At Work, Judas Priest, Stevie Nicks, Willie Nelson. INXS, Joe Walsh, Motley Crue and Ozzy Osbourne.Over 750,000 fans attended the festival.

1984: Lita Ford released the album "Dancin' On The Edge"

1985: Lizzy Borden released debut album "Love You To Pieces"

1988: Iron Maiden peaked at #12 on theBillboard Top 200 Albums Chart with their seventh studio album:Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. This album went on to achieve Gold sales status in the United States. The great Derek Riggs created the album cover art for this splendid album too.

1990: Motley Crue released the single "Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)"

Undisputed Attitude

1996: Undisputed Attitude is the seventh studio album by American thrash metal band Slayer. The album consists almost entirely of punk rock / hardcore punk cover songs. Also included are two songs written by guitarist Jeff Hanneman in 1984 and 1985 for a side project called Pap Smear, and the closing track, Gemini, the only Slayer original on the record. The cover songs on the album were originally recorded by the bands Minor Threat,T.S.O.L., D.R.I., D.I., Dr. Know, The Stooges and Verbal Abuse, whose work was prominently featured with the inclusion of cover versions of five of their songs. A video was also released of Slayer's version of the song "I Hate You" by Verbal Abuse. Released on May 28, 1996 through American Recordings, Undisputed Attitude peaked at number 34 on the Billboard 200 chart.

2002: Mastodon released their debut album "Remission"

2006: The Red Hot Chili Peppers had the top album in the U.K. with Stadium Arcadium.

2007: The Police kicked off their 152 show Reunion Tour at General Motors Place in Vancouver, Canada in front of 22,000 fans.

2015: Whitesnake’s new studio album of Deep Purplecover songs, The Purple Album, debuts at #87 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart.

1917: Papa John Creech, violinist with Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna. He died in 1994 aged 76.

1945: John Fogerty, guitar, vocals, Creedence Clearwater Revival(1969 UK No.1 and US No.2 single 'Bad Moon Rising', plus ten other US Top 30 hits, 1970 US & UK No.1 album 'Cosmo's Factory'). Solo and The Blue Ridge Rangers.

1963: Gavin Harrison, English drummer and percussionist best known for playing with the British progressive rock bands Porcupine Tree and King Crimson.
