1945: Bob Marley was born in Nine Mile, Saint Ann, Jamaica; died May 11, 1981 of melanoma in Miami, Florida.
1957: Simon Phillips (drummer for Toto) is born in London, England.
1962: Axl Rose (born as William Bruce Rose, raised as William Bailey), lead singer of Guns N' Roses, was born in Lafayette, Indiana.
1968: The Beatles record "The Inner Light" and finish work on "Lady Madonna."
1970: John Lennon's "Instant Karma" with Yoko Ono's "Who Has Seen the Wind?" was released in the U.K.
1976: Elvis Presley records "Never Again" and "Love Coming Down."
1981: Paul McCartney records vocals for George Harrison's "All Those Years Ago," which is a tribute to John Lennon. Ringo Starr also played on the song.
1982: A new group from San Francisco, California with a great infectious sound first debuted on the chart. "Do You Believe In Love" was the name of that first single, for Huey Lewis & the News.
1984: KISS released "All Hell's Breakin' Loose" as the 2nd single off the Lick It Up album.
1984: At the Sweetwaters South Festival in Christchurch, New Zealand, Talking Heads play their last concert, a messy set that is cut short after just a few songs. They release three more albums but perform together again just once: in 2002 when they are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
1994: Nirvana embarked on their final tour of Europe,so far.
1998: Austrian singer-songwriter Falco (Hans Hölzel) dies in a car crash while under the influence of cocaine and alcohol, just two weeks shy of his 41st birthday.
2001: Don Felder, guitarist of the Eagles, was fired from the group.
2011: Gary Moore one of The Top 100 Guitarists of the Rock Era (guitarist for Thin Lizzy,Skid Row) dies of a heart attack at age 58.
