Rock and Metal history , a day like today July 4



1969: Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Winter, Delaney and Bonnie, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Canned Heat, Joe Cocker, Blood Sweat & Tears, Chuck Berry,Spirit, Chicago and Paul Butterfield all appeared at the two-day Atlanta Pop Festival, Byron, Georgia.

-The Doors appeared at the Willingdon Juvenile Detention Home For Girls in Vancouver, Canada.

1976: The Ramones, The Stranglers and The Flamin Groovies appeared at London's Roundhouse, tickets £1.60.

-The Clash made their live debut supporting the Sex Pistols at the Black Swan, Sheffield, England.

1978: Aerosmith played the Texas World Festival and the show was filmed for a video which was eventually released in 1989.

1985: Dire Straits begin ten consecutive nights of concerts at Wembley Arena.

1987: John Fogerty performed at a Vietnam Vets Benefit in Washington D.C. and played many CCR hits which he hadn’t sung in years.

– A concert featuring Rock icons Santana, the Doobie Brothers and Bonnie Raitt was held in Moscow, Russia. The late and legendary concert promoter Bill Graham convinced the Soviet government to have this concert held.

1992: Jackyl released their debut album "Jackyl" under Geffen Records and eventually went platinum.It features a song entitled "She Loves My Cock", which was omitted from edited versions, as were suggestive elements on the album's cover art. When a Kmart in Georgia refused to sell Jackyl, the band played an impromptu concert in front of the store. Footage of the event was used for the music video of their single "I Stand Alone". Official release date is Agust 11 of the same year.

2003: Metallica, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, the Deftones and Mudvayne kick off the Summer Sanitarium tour in Pontiac, Michigan.

1940: Dave Rowberry, keyboards, The Animals. (1964 UK & US No.1 single 'House Of The Rising Sun'). Rowberry died on 6th June 2003.

1958: Kirk Pengilly, guitar, vocals, INXS, (1988 UK No.2 & US No.1 single 'Need You Tonight'). 1987 album 'Kick' has sold over 10m copies in the US alone and features four Top 10 singles; 'Need You Tonight,' 'Devil Inside', 'New Sensation,' and 'Never Tear Us Apart.'

1963: Michael Sweet singer with Stryper

1964: Mark Slaughter singer with Slaughter

1972: William Goldsmith, Foo Fighters, drummer, (1995 UK No.5 single 'This Is A Call'). Quit the band in 1997.
