Charlie Grima

1944: Born on this day, Charlie Grima, Wizzard, (1973 UK No.1 single 'See My Baby Jive').


John Densmore

1944: Born on this day, John Densmore, drums, The Doors, (1967 US No.1 & UK No.49 single 'Light My Fire' & 1971 single 'Riders On The Storm').

1964: The Who played the first of 22 straight nights at the Marquee Club in London.

1965: The Zombies released the single "Tell Her No".

1967: The Jimi Hendrix Experience album "Axis: Bold as Love" was released in the U.K.Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Move, Nice, Outer Limits and Amen Corner played at the Central Hall, Chatham. The Chatham Standard later reported: ‘Hendrix opened his act with the Beatles’ number Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and the three-piece group made as much of an impression as a studio full of musicians. Once upon a time this sort of noise could not be reproduced outside a studio. He did several of his own numbers, including unfaultable versions of Hey Joe and Purple Haze and The Troggs Wild Thing.

1968: Janis Joplin made her final appearance with her band, Big Brother and the Holding Company.

1972: The Eagles released the single "Peaceful Easy Feeling".

1973:The (now iconic) single Dream On by Aerosmith initially peaked at #59 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. Dream On was reissued as a single two and a half years later and peaked at # six.


Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

1973: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath the fifth studio album by English rock band Black Sabbath, was released . It was produced by the band and recorded at Morgan Studios in London in September 1973.


Equinox

1975: The Styx album "Equinox" was released.


We Sold Our Soul for Rock 'n' Roll

1975: We Sold Our Soul for Rock 'n' Roll a compilation album by British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, was originally released in the UK a day like today and 3 February 1976 in the US.

1976: The Sex Pistols appeared on the British TV "Today." During the interview, profanity was used by the band members. The result was theSex Pistols being banned in several British cities.


Brad Delson

1977: Born on this day, Brad Delson, guitar, Linkin Park, (2002 US No.2 & UK No.4 single 'In The End', 2002 US No.2 & 2001 UK No.4 album 'Hybrid Theory').

1980: U2 opened for the Talking Heads at the Hammersmith Palais in London.

1986: Live Magic the second live album by British rock band Queen, was released. It was recorded at various live shows during The Magic Tour. However, it was not released in the United States until August 1996. It received strong criticism from fans, due to the heavy editing of many songs. For example, the opera section was removed from "Bohemian Rhapsody", the second verse and chorus were removed from "Tie Your Mother Down", and "Is This the World We Created...?", "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" were reduced to one verse and chorus. In July 2004, Q magazine listed Live Magic as one of the top five disappointing live albums from usually great acts.

1987: A Kentucky teacher lost her appeal in the US Supreme Court over her sacking after showing Pink Floyd's film The Wall to her class. The court decided that the film was not suitable for minors with its bad language and sexual content.

1990: Heart hits #13 with their single: Stranded. This song is featured on Heart’s tenth studio album from 1990: Brigade.

Nevermind

1992: Nevermind from Nirvana hits #1 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums Chart. Sales grosses are $50 million plus.


Ray Gillen

1993: Hard rocker Ray Gillen (of Black Sabbath, Badlands) dies of an AIDS-related disease at age 34.

2004: U2 debuted at #1 on the Album chart with How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb.

2014: Phil Rudd the drummer of rock band AC/DC pleaded not guilty to charges of threatening to kill and possession of drugs. Phil Rudd was excused from appearing in New Zealand's Tauranga District Court, with his lawyer entering his plea. The 60-year-old Australian-born musician was originally charged with attempting to procure the murder of two men.

2014: Machine Head perform a concert at Klubben/Fryshuset in Stockholm, Sweden. The supporting bands were: Devil You Know, Darkest Hour and Sonic Syndicate.
