1945: Vic Briggs, lead guitarist of Steampacket and the Animals, was born in Feltham, London, England.
1946: Doug Simril, guitarist and pianist with the Steve Miller Band and Boz Scaggs
1947: Tim Buckley is born in Washington, D.C., but spends much of his childhood in Amsterdam, New York, and Bell Gardens, California.
1950: Heart guitarist Roger Fisher is born.
1951: Simple Minds drummer Kenny Hyslop is born in Helensburgh, Scotland.
1970: For the third week in a row and fourth overall, Led Zeppelin II topped the Album chart.
- The Who appeared at Leeds University, England. The show was recorded for the bands forthcoming 'Live At Leeds' album. Since its initial reception, Live at Leeds has been cited by several music critics as the best live rock recording of all time. The University of Leeds refectory, has now been named a national landmark in the UK, commemorated with a blue plaque.
1972: "Steppenwolf Day" was declared in Los Angeles as they announced their break-up.1972. Steppenwolf break up for the first time, saying, "We were locked into an image and style of music and there was nothing for us to look forward to." The group, which released six albums from 1968-1971, get back together in 1974.
1977: The B52s's perform their first concert together in Athens, GA.
1978: Dire Straits began recording their first album.
1981: Billy Idol left Generation X for a solo career.
1987: Bon Jovi made it six weeks at #1 for the album Slippery When Wet.
1989: Vincent Crane, keyboardist with The Crazy World of Arthur Brown ("Fire" from 1968), died at age 45 when he took too many painkillers while dealing with manic depression.
1990: The Rolling Stones begin their first-ever tour of Japan at Tokyo's Korakuen Dome.
1999: Rocker Buddy Knox dies of lung cancer at age 65.
2002: Sweet drummer Mick Tucker dies of leukemia at age 54.
2010: Doug Fieger, songwriter, lead singer and rhythm guitarist with the Knack ("My Sharona") died at the age of 57 in Los Angeles, California after a long battle with cancer.
