1946: Pierre Van Den Linden, drummer of Focus ("Hocus Pocus" from 1973), was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
1948: Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi is born in Birmingham, England.
1951: Alan Merrill is born in New York City. Moving to England, he forms The Arrows, who do the original version of "I Love Rock And Roll."
1954: Francis Buchholz (bass guitarist for Scorpions) is born in Hannover, Germany.
1964: Simon & Garfunkel completed the original acoustic version of "The Sounds of Silence."
1972: Nilsson had one of The Top 100 Songs of the Rock Era*, and "Without You" moved to #1 on this date.
1975: Daniel Adair , drummer of 3 Doors Down ("When I'm Gone" From 2003) and Nickelback, was born in Vancouver, British Columbia.
1980: Bon Scott, the lead singer of heavy metal band AC/DC, died in London at the age of 33. He died as a result of choking on his own vomit after drinking heavily.
1981: Phil Collins releases his debut solo album, Face Value.
1985: Mick Jagger released "She's The Boss" in the U.S. It was his first solo album.
2002: Ten months after his death, Joey Ramone's only solo album, Don't Worry About Me, is released. He worked on it at the end of his life while battling lymphoma.
