Rock and Metal History, a day like today June 13


1964: The Rolling Stones performed on the television show Hollywood Palace hosted by Dean Martin.

1969: Mick Taylor joined the Rolling Stones, taking the place of Brian Jones, who wasn't satisfied with the musical direction the band was going.

1970: Heavy Metal pioneers Mountain had their hit single, Mississippi Queen, ranked at #21, on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart.

1975: John Lennon performed on television for the final time, singing his classic "Imagine".

-Peter Frampton played the first of two nights at the Winterland Ballroom, San Francisco, California. Recordings from these two shows were used as part of his No.1 double album 'Frampton Comes Alive'.

1979: The Cars released their second album Candy-O which went on to peak at number three on the Billboard 200 Album Chart.

1982: Pink Floyd began recording sessions for their album The Final Cut.

1987: Genesis reached #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart with "In Too Deep".

-The Joshua Tree spent an eighth week at #1 on the Album chart for U2. Whitesnake's impressive debut was at #2 with Bon Jovi still hanging around with Slippery When Wet.

-Whitesnake peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 Album Chart with their self-titled album.

-Motley Crew debut at No. 5 on US LP chart with Girls Girls Girls

1995: Industrial Metal legends Fear Factory released their second studio album: Demanufacture, their second studio album released Roadrunner Records. This is the band's first album with their classic line-up adding new bassist Christian Olde Wolbers. Many regard it as the band's best album and a heavy metal classic.The album was certified Gold in Australia by ARIA and Silver in the UK by the BPI. Demanufacture is a concept album about a man's struggles against a machine-controlled government, with each song a chapter in his life. The band stated the album took its inspiration from the movie, The Terminator . It is often called a landmark record in alternative metal, and heavy metal in general, and is often regarded as the band's best album

1951: Howard Lees, Heart,Bad Company (1987 US & UK No.3 single 'Alone').

1952: American rock guitarist Russell Javors best known as a rhythm guitarist for Billy Joel from 1976 to 1989. Javors also recorded guitar parts for Karen Carpenter's 1979 self-titled album, which was released in 1996.

1963: Michael Einziger, Incubus, (2004 US No.2 and UK No.6 album ‘A Crow Left of the Murder’’, 2006 US No.1 album ‘Light Grenades’).
