1963: The Rolling Stones played at Ricky Tick Club, Star and Garter Hotel, Windsor, Berks. The influential 1960s rhythm & blues club in Windsor, Berkshire, was the host to many important acts such as The Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd and Cream.
1966: Jimmy Page (later of Led Zeppelin) made his live debut with The Yardbirds at the Marquee Club in London.
1968: Pink Floyd played two shows in one day: the first at the Commemoration Ball, Balliol College, Oxford, and then at Middle Earth Club, Covent Garden, London. The club was notable for several drug raids by the police, during which underage revellers were arrested; on one occasion a machine called the 'Trip Machine' was dismantled and taken away by the police.
1975: Former Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore announced the formation of his new group Rainbow, which featured Ronnie James Dio on vocals.
– Alice Cooper had his ballad Only Women sitting at #12, on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. This song is featured on Alice Cooper’s first solo studio album, from 1975: Welcome To My Nightmare.
1985: Mötley Crüe released their third studio album: Theatre of Pain. This album went on to reach #6 on theBillboard Top 200 Albums Chart. Released in the aftermath of singer Vince Neil's arrest for manslaughter on a drunk driving charge, the album marked a step away from the traditional heavy metal sound of Too Fast for Love and Shout at the Devil towards a more glam metal influenced style.Theatre of Pain contains the hit singles "Smokin' in the Boys Room" and the power ballad "Home Sweet Home". The album reached No. 6 in the US charts[11] and No. 36 in the UK,[12] and was certified quadruple platinumby the RIAA on June 5, 1995.Theatre of Pain is dedicated to Hanoi Rocks former member Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley, who was killed in the car crash that resulted in Vince Neil's arrest."Save Our Souls" was used in the Italian horror film Dèmoni, produced by Dario Argento.
1986:Genesis scored their fourth UK No.1 album with their 13th studio album 'Invisible Touch'. It remained in the charts for 96 weeks, making it the most commercially successful album of their career, eventually selling over 15 million copies worldwide and produced five US Top 5 singles, including the title track.
1989: The Who kicked off their first reunion tour in Glen Falls, NY at the Glen Falls Civic Center.
2001:John Lee Hooker, American blues singer and guitarist died in his sleep aged 83. Had hits with 'Boom Boom', 'Dimples' and 'I'm In The Mood'. His songs have been covered by many artists including Cream, AC/DC, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin,Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrison, The Yardbirds, The Doors and The White Stripes. He appeared and sang in the 1980 movie The Blues Brothers.
