1968: The Jeff Beck group featuring Rod Stewart made their US debut at the Fillmore East, New York.
-In the U.K., the #1 song was "Jumpin' Jack Flash" by the Rolling Stones.
1970: Led Zeppelin appeared at Laugardalsholl Hall, Reykjavik, Iceland on the group's one and only visit to Iceland. It is suggested that Robert Plant was inspired to write the lyrics to 'Immigrant Song' during this trip." 1985: Born in the U.S.A. was still only down to #5 after 53 weeks on the Album chart.
1979: Neil Young releases his highly lauded live album,"Rust Never Sleeps". It contains several new songs that go on to be Young favorites, including "Powderfinger," "My My, Hey Hey," and "Pocahontas."
1988: American session guitarist Jesse Ed Davis died of a heroin overdose after collapsing in a laundry room in Venice, California, aged 43. Worked with Conway Twitty, The Monkees, John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Leonard Cohen, Keith Moon, Jackson Browne, Steve Miller, Harry Nilsson and Taj Mahal.
1992: Black Sabbath released their sixteenth studio album , " Dehumanizer " . It was the first Black Sabbath studio album in over a decade to feature Ronnie James Dio on vocals and Vinny Appice on drums. It is also the first in nine years to feature original bassist Geezer Butler. This album's line-up of Dio, Appice, Butler, and guitarist Tony Iommi later reunited in 2006 for a greatest hits set, Black Sabbath: The Dio Years, and a new studio album in 2009, The Devil You Know (billed as "Heaven & Hell"). 2003: Evanescence were at No.1 on the UK album chart with 'Fallen'.
2004: Motörhead released their seventeenth studio album " Inferno ". Inferno was Motörhead's first album with Cameron Webb producing. The band admitted that they made Inferno the same way as all their other albums — at the last minute — by renting a big rehearsal room in Los Angeles and writing songs for about six weeks and, after a week break, recording them while they're still fresh. "In the Black" was featured in the video game Brütal Legend.
2004: Lynyrd Skynyrd releases "Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyve: The Vicious Cycle Tour", their fifth live album. Featuring music from a July 11, 2003 performance at Antioch, Tennessee's Amsouth Amphitheater, it celebrates the band's thirty year anniversary.
2008: Coldplay went to No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Viva La Vida', their first UK No.1. History was made by this single, as it had no physical CD-single release in the UK, being available by internet download only. The song won a Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 2009.
2009: Blues bassist Nick Holt (of The Teardrops) dies of brain cancer at age 69.
2010: Lynyrd Skynyrd releases "Live from Freedom Hall", their eight live album. It features music performed June 15, 2007 at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky.
