Rock and Metal History, a day like today June 27


1967: The Doors appeared at The Paramount Theatre Brooklyn, New York. The Brooklyn Paramount became an early home of rock ‘n’ roll, with Alan Freed’s rock ‘n’ roll shows playing at the theater. It also helped introduce Brooklyn to jazz, with artists like Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis and Duke Ellington.

1969: Jimi Hendrix appeared at the Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

-The Doors performed at the Gran Forum in Mexico City, Mexico.

1970: The newly formed Queen featuring Freddie Mercury (possibly still known as Freddie Bulsara) on vocals, guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and Mike Grose on bass played their first gig at Truro City Hall, Cornwall, England. They were billed as Smile, Brian and Roger's previous band, for whom the booking had been made originally. Original material at this time included an early version of 'Stone Cold Crazy'.

-Pink Floyd, Steppenwolf, Canned Heat, Its A Beautiful Day, Johnny Winter, John Mayall and Fairport Convention appeared on opening day of the three-day Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music in Bath, England.1970: Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, the Band and the Flying Burrito Brothers traveled together on a transcontinental train to perform in Toronto, Winnipeg,


1973 : Aerosmith released the power ballad "Dream On".Written by lead singer Steven Tyler, this song was their first major hit and became a classic rock radio staple.

1980: Led Zeppelin appeared at Messehalle, Nuremberg, Germany during their last ever tour. After the group had played just three songs, drummer John Bonham collapsed on stage, causing the remainder of the show to be cancelled.

1981: Motorhead scored their only UK No.1 album with 'No Sleep Til Hammersmith'. The live album was recorded at Leeds and Newcastle shows during their Short, Sharp Pain In The Neck tour in 1981. The name of the tour was a reference to the injury sustained by Phil Taylor when he was dropped on his head during some after-show horseplay. Despite the title of the album, the London venue the Hammersmith Odeon was not played on the tour.1989: The Who performed Tommy in its entirety for the first time at Radio City Music Hall in New York City to benefit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a charity.

You Can't Stop Rock 'N' Roll

1983: Twisted Sister released their second studio album "You Can't Stop Rock 'n' Roll" .The songs "The Kids Are Back", "I Am (I'm Me)," and the album's title track were released as singles. The album was certified as a Gold Album for USA for selling over 500,000 items.

Rage For Order

1986: Queensryche released their second album "Rage For Order".The album was re-released on May 6, 2003 with four bonus tracks.The concept of robotics wes emphasized through the use of staccato rhythms and vocal effects such as a reverse echo.

1988: Stryper released the album "In God We Trust"

1987: The fourth studio album, Girls, Girls, Girls, from MÖTLEY CRÜE was ranked at #2, on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart.

1994: Aerosmith became the first major band to let fans download a full new track free from the internet.

1997: Radiohead, Cast, The Bluetones, Manson, The Chemical Brothers, Ash, The Seahorses, Smashing Pumpkins, The Prodigy, Beck, Sheryl Crow, Sting, Dodgy, Travis, Ray Davies, Kula Shaker, Steve Winwood all appeared at the 3-day Glastonbury Festival.

2002: One day before the scheduled first show of The Who's 2002 US tour, bass player John Entwistle, died aged 57 in his hotel room at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Entwistle had gone to bed that night with a stripper, who woke at 10am to find Entwistle cold and unresponsive. The Las Vegas medical examiner determined that death was due to a heart attack induced by an undetermined amount of cocaine.

2003: R.E.M. David Gray, Suede, The Music, Mogwai, De La Soul, Echo and The Bunnymen, Inspiral Carpets and The Darkness all appeared at this years UK Glastonbury Festival.

A Light In The Dark

2006: Metalchurch released their eighth album "A Light In The Dark"at US.It was previously released on June 16, 2006 in Germanyand June 19 in the rest of Europe.This was the third and last Metal Church album to feature the cruciform Gibson Explorer on a cover as well as the last to feature Jay Reynolds on guitar. It was also the first to feature Jeff Plate on drums.

Quiet Riot 10

2014: QUIET RIOT released their twelfth studio album "10" or "Quiet Riot 10 '. It is their first studio album since 1988's QR not to feature longtime and founding vocalist Kevin DuBrow in any newly recorded material, due to his death in November 2007. It is also the band's first album since reuniting in 2010. Although a studio album, the final four tracks on Quiet Riot 10 are live performances taken from some of the band's final shows with DuBrow in 2007. Love/Hate vocalist Jizzy Pearl joined the band in November 2013 and performs lead vocals on the six studio tracks.

2016: The newly released and sixth studio album" Mark Of The Blade ", from WHITECHAPEL is ranked at #1, on theiTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart.

Born on this day



1945: American drummer Joey Covington, best known for his involvements with Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna and Jefferson Starship. Covington died in an automobile accident in Palm Springs, California, on June 4, 2013.
