Rock and Metal History, a day like today June 6


1962: The first Beatles recording session took place at Abbey Road studios. The group recorded four tracks, one of which was 'Love Me Do' the four musicians received payments for the session of £7.10 ($12.07) each. 1965: The Rolling Stones released the single '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction' in the US, which went on to give the band their first No.1. In the UK, (where it was released in August 1966), the song initially played only on pirate radio stations because its lyrics were considered too sexually suggestive. 1966: The Beatles released the single "Paperback Writer".

1968: The Rolling Stones added new lyrics to their upcoming song "Sympathy For The Devil" following the assassination of Robert Kennedy.

1975: Pink Floyd performed in America but did not fare well after Roger Waters spat on the audience.

1979: Def Leppard played at Crookes Workingman's Club in Sheffield. The gig was reviewed in UK music paper 'Sounds' and led to a recording contract with Phonogram Records.

1985: Axl, Slash, Duff, Izzy, Steven performed first show together as Guns N' Roses!

1986: Bob Dylan performed at the Amnesty International concert at the Forum in Los Angeles.

- Genesis released their great album Invisible Touch.

1988: Britny Fox released their debut album "Britny Fox"

1987: The Joshua Tree by U2 remained as the #1 album.

2000: Alice Cooper released the album "Brutal Planet"

2003: Dave Rowberry, who gave us one of the most memorable keyboard solos of the Rock Era on the Animals song "House Of The Rising Sun", was found dead in his home in East London. Rowberry was 62. 2004: Metallica played without drummer Lars Ulrich, who had to miss a show. Joey Jordison of Slipknot and Dave Lombardo from Slayer fill in at the Download Festival in England's Donington Park.

- Performers at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Festival in Dallas, Texas included Santana, ZZ Top, James Taylor, John Mayer and host Clapton.

2006: Billy Preston died of kidney failure. The Grammy-winning keyboard player collaborated with some of the greatest names in the music industry, including The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Nat King Cole, Little Richard, Ray Charles, George Harrison, Elton John, Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan.

2011: Iron Maiden released compilation album "From Fear To Eternity",containing a selection of songs originally released on the eight studio albums from No Prayer for the Dyingto The Final Frontier. The title is lifted from the 1992 single, "From Here to Eternity", although it is not featured in this release.

1970: James Shaffer, guitar, Korn, (1998 UK No.23 single 'Got The Life', 1998 US No.1 album 'Follow The Leader').

Cristina Adriana Chiara Scabbia

1972: Cristina Adriana Chiara Scabbia ,Italian singer and lyricist, best known as one of the two vocalists in the Italian Gothic metal bandLacuna Coil.She also writes an advice column in the popular rock magazine Revolver, alongside musician Vinnie Paul. Scabbia is featured in a Megadeth song, "À Tout le Monde
