Rock and Metal History, a day like today June 8


1967: Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones joined the Beatles in the studio on saxophone to record "You Know My Name (Look Up The Number)".

1969: Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Charlie Watts visited Brian Jones at his home in Cotchford Farm to discuss his future in the group. The Stones later issued a press statement saying that Brian was leaving The Rolling Stones.

1970: Deep Purple had their van and equipment impounded by East German police while on an European tour, after mistakenly driving too close to the border.

1975: It was a great double bill at the Orpheum with Lynyrd Skynyrd and Golden Earring.

Angel Dust , Faith no More

1992: Faith No More released the album "Angel Dust" their fourth studio album. It was first released through Slash Records in Europe and the United States. It is the follow-up to 1989's highly successfulThe Real Thing, as well as the band's final studio album with guitarist Jim Martin and the second to feature vocalist Mike Patton. It was the first album in which Patton had any substantial influence on the band's music,[4][5]having been hired after the other band members had written and recorded everything for The Real Thing except vocals and some lyrics.

1996: Metallica reached the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart for the first and only time with their hit single: Until It Sleeps. This song peaked at number ten. Until It Sleeps is featured on Metallica’s sixth studio album, released in 1996: Load.


1999: Def Leppard released Euphoria , their seventh studio album . The album aimed to return to their signature sound made famous by the band in the 1980s. It was produced by the band with Pete Woodroffe. The album charted at No. 11 on The Billboard 200[5] and No. 11 on the UK Albums Chart.[6] The album is also known for including the song "Promises", which hit the number one spot on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. The tune has been performed on numerous tours since, with 440 plays according to Setlist.fm publicly.In its first week of release, Euphoria sold over 98,000 units in the US and just missed the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, reaching No. 11. First single "Promises" topped Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart in June 1999, a spot the band had not held in six years.Euphoria would later be certified gold in the US, Canada and Japan. The album-supporting tour stretched from May 1999 to September 2000.

2001: AC/DC, The Offspring, Queens Of The Stone Age and Megadeth all appeared at the Milton Keynes Bowl, England; tickets cost £28.50 ($48.45).

2003: Evanescence started a four-week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Bring Me To Life.' The song won a Grammy Award in 2004 for the Best Hard Rock performance.

- Led Zeppelin were at No.1 on the US album chart with their triple live album How The West Was Won, the band's seventh US No.1 album. The performances were from the band's 1972 tour of the United States, recorded at the LA Forum on 25 June 1972 and Long Beach Arena on 27 June 1972.

- Peter Garrett of Midnight Oil was made a Member of the Order of Australia by Queen Elizabeth II.

- Led Zeppelin reached the top of the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart for the first time in twenty-four years, with their triple live album: How The West Was Won. This album features live performances from their 1972 United States tour. How The West Was Won spent just one week on top of this album chart.

2008: Rolling Stone magazine published a list of the Top 50 guitar songs of all time. No.5 was 'Brown Sugar' by The Rolling Stones, No.4 , ‘You Really Got Me’ by The Kinks, No.3, ‘Crossroads’, by Cream, No.2 ‘Purple Haze’, by Jimi Hendrix and No.1 ‘Johnny B Goode’, Chuck Berry.

2010: Iron Maiden released the single El Dorado


White chapel , A New Era Of Corruption

- White Chapel released the album "A New Era Of Corruption", their third studio album was released worldwide through Metal Blade Records. In the USA, just under 10,700 copies were sold in the first week, placing it at No. 43 on the Billboard 200 chart.[6] This is the last Whitechapel album to feature drummer Kevin Lane.

2011: Def Leppard released the double live album "Mirror Ball" .The album contains, as well as live recordings, three new studio tracks and a DVD containing both concert and backstage footage. The new tracks include "Undefeated," composed by Joe Elliott, "It's All About Believin'," by Phil Collen and "Kings of the World," by Rick Savage .

2015: The new studio album from Lamb Of God, titled VII: Sturm Und Drang, is ranked at #2 on the iTunes Top 100 Heavy Metal Albums Chart. This album released worldwide, on July 24th, 2015.
