1956: Steve Harris, songwriter and bassist of Iron Maiden, was born in Leytonstone, Essex, England.
1965: The Beatles finished the filming of the movie Help! in the Bahamas.
1967: Ben Kenny, bassist of Incubus, was born in Brielle, New Jersey.
1967: The Velvet Underground releases The Velvet Underground And Nico.
1968: The Rolling Stones began recording "Jumpin' Jack Flash" with their new producer, Jimmy Miller, at Olympic studios in London.
1969: Blur guitarist Graham Coxon is born in Germany to English parents.
1975: Elvis Presley records "Bringing It Back" and "Pieces of My Life.
1977: A great new British group first appeared on the chart on this day, though most wouldn't hear of them until later. The group's first single was "Your Own Special Way". Genesis would go on to become one of the dominant rock acts of the 1980's.
1983: Def Leppard first appeared on the chart on this date with their first single release "Photograph". U2 had the #1 U.K. album with War.
1990: Sinead O'Connor released the single "Nothing Compares 2 U.
1991: R.E.M. released the album Out of Time.
1996: KISS released the album "MTV Unplugged."
2003: The Chinese government gives The Rolling Stones a list of songs they will not be allowed to play on their upcoming tour of the country. The list includes "Brown Sugar," "Honky Tonk Women" and "Let's Spend The Night Together."
2013: Clive Burr, who was Iron Maiden's drummer from 1979-1982, dies at age 56 after a battle with multiple sclerosis.
