1933: Song writer Mike Stoller is born in Long Island, New York. Along with his partner Jerry Leiber, he writes a slew of hits, including "Jailhouse Rock," "Yakety Yak" and "Stand By Me."
1939: Neil Sedaka is born in Brooklyn, New York.
1960: U2 bass player Adam Clayton is born in Oxfordshire, England.
1965: Eric Clapton left the Yardbirds.
1966: Rod Stewart left the group Steampacket to start a solo career.
1968: The Byrds' Greatest Hits is certified gold.
1973: Ed Sloan (frontman for Crossfade) is born in South Carolina.
1973: David Draiman, lead singer of Disturbed, was born in Brooklyn, New York.
1976: #1 Billboard Album: Eagles' Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975)
1984: The Cars released the album Heartbeat City.
1992: Bad Religion release their sixth full-length studio album, Generator. This is the band's debut album with drummer Bobby Schayer, who remains in the band until 2000's The New America.

2015: Daevid Allen, Australian jazz-rock guitarist (of Gong, Soft Machine), dies of cancer at age 77.
