1945 - Sally Carr (Middle of the Road) is born in Muirhead, Scotland.

- Chuck Portz (bassist forThe Turtles) is born in Santa Monica, California.

1948 - John Evan (keyboardist for Jethro Tull) is born in Blackpool, Lancashire, England.

- Milan Williams (keyboardist for The Commodores) is born in Okolona, Mississippi.

1958 - Eddie Cochran records "Summertime Blues."

1964 - The Beatles become the first Rock Stars displayed in Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in London.

- Meet the Beatles! was #1 on the Album chart for the seventh week andIntroducing...The Beatleswas #2.

1968 - Pink Floyd recorded a performance for the BBC 2 TV Omnibus - The Sound of Change show from Barnes Common, London, England. The special, which was produced by Tony Palmer, also featured performances by The Who, Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The show was later broadcast in September of this year.

1969 - Joe Cockerplays his first live gig in the US.


Houses Of The Holy

1973 - Led Zeppelin releases Houses Of The Holy. The fifth studio album by the English rock band. It was released by Atlantic Records.

1974 - Queen appeared at Aberystwyth University in Wales.



1979 - The day after they are married ,Eric Clapton sings "Wonderful Tonight" to his new wife Pattie at his concert in Tucson, Arizona. He wrote the song about her while waiting for her to get ready to go out.

1983 - Irene Cara released her remarkable single "Flashdance".



1991 - The funeral is held for Eric Clapton's son Conor, who was 4 years old when he fell to his death out an open window. Clapton's song "Tears In Heaven" is about Conor.

1992 - INXS,Crowded Houseand other Australian acts play the "Concert For Life"

- Over a $100,000 (£58,800) worth of damage was caused at The Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre, California, when Ozzy Osbourne invited the first two rows of the audience on stage. Several others took up the offer and the band was forced to exit the stage.

- Pearl Jam appeared at the Cabaret Metro in Chicago with Smashing Pumpkins as the opening act.

1996 - Phil CollinsleavesGenesison good terms, stating he will concentrate on "Movies, some Jazz projects, and of course my solo career."

1998 - KISS played the first of five sold-out shows at the Budokan in Tokyo, Japan.

2005 - Queen started their first tour without the late Freddie Mercury and bassist John Deacon at the Brixton Academy in London. Paul Rodgers took over lead vocals.

2013 - Session rock guitarist Hugh McCracken (Billy Joel,Steely Dan) dies at age 70 of leukemia.
