1946: Keith Hopwood, guitarist of Herman's Hermits, was born in Manchester, England.
1958: The first rock concert in Germany is held in Berlin, and it doesn't go well, as agitated youth fight during a performance by Bill Haley and his Comets. By the time police clear the Berlin Sportpalast, where the concert is held, five policemen and six audience members are seriously injured.
1962: The Beatles debuted on the U.K. chart with their first single "Love Me Do".
1963: Natalie Merchant (lead singer of 10,000 Maniacs) is born in Jamestown, New York.
1965: The Beatles received Member of the British Empire medals at Buckingham Palace in London.
1968: Steppenwolf hits #3 in the U.S. with their hit Magic Carpet Ride.
1973: Paul McCartney & Wings released the single "Helen Wheels".
1974: English supergroup Bad Company was number one on the Cashbox Best Sellers chart with "Can't Get Enough." It became the band's biggest North American hit.
1974: Jeroen van Veen, Within Temptation was born.Jeroen has been a member of Within Temptation since the band's inception in 1996. Although he is the bassist of the band, Jeroen can also play the drums.
1979: AC/DC performed at The Mayfair in England. Def Leppard appeared as their supporting act. The bands were supposed to play the gig the night before, but there was a fire at the venue that afternoon, so the show was cancelled.
1980: Paul Kantner of Jefferson Starship suffered a brain hemorrhage during a recording session.
1981: Bruce Dickinson plays his first show with Iron Maiden.Dickinson officially joined Iron Maiden on Sept. 26, 1981, a full month before performing his first show.
1981: Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie was released as a single.
1985: Dire Straits sat in the #1 spot for the ninth week on the Album chart with Brothers in Arms.
1998: Marilyn Manson begin their Mechanical Animals tour with a show in Kansas City.
