1957: An historic day in the Rock Era as Elvis Presley released the single "Jailhouse Rock" on RCA Victor Records.
1966: In England, Jimi Hendrix, The Walker Brothers, Cat Stevens and Engelbert Humberdink appeared at The Odeon.
1969: Deep Purple performed "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at London's Royal Albert Hall.
1971: Peter Salisbury, drummer of the Verve, was born in Bath, Somerset, England.
1973: Chicago released the single "Just You 'N Me".
Ringo Starr released the single "Photograph".
1977: Styx released their single “Come Sail Away.” It became their second top-ten hit and peaked at number eight.
1979: The Eagles release their sixth album,The Long Run. The lead single is "Heartache Tonight," a song co-written by Bob Seger.
1982: Prince's "1999" single was released.
1988: Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses returned to #1 on the Album chart, displacing the great album Hysteria by Def Leppard
1990: AC/DC releases their twelfth studio album, The Razors Edge.It was a major comeback for the band, featuring the hits "Thunderstruck" and "Are You Ready". The album reached #2 on the US Billboard 200 and #4 in the UK.
1991: Nirvana's second studio album "Nevermind" was released.The album cover, which shows a naked baby swimming with a U.S. dollar bill on a fishhook just out of his reach, is one of the most famous album covers in popular music. The lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" peaked at number six on the US Billboard Hot 100
1991: Red Hot Chili Peppers released their classic album, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, which included hits like “Under the Bridge” and “Give It Away.”
