1942: Richard Allen Wagner was born. (December 14, 1942 – July 30, 2014)He was an American rock music guitarist, songwriter and author best known for his work with Alice Cooper, Lou Reed, and Kiss. He also fronted his own Michigan-based bands, The Frost and The Bossmen.

Cliff Williams

1949: Cliff Williams is universally known as a long-time member, bassist and backing vocalist for the iconic AC/DC.

1962: The Beatles played two separate shows at the same venue, the Majestic Ballroom in Birkenhead, Merseyside. First they played a standard Majestic booking then at midnight, the first-ever "Mersey Beat" poll awards show took place. As poll winners, The Beatles closed the show (at 4:00 am).

1962: Bill Wyman made his live debut with The Rollin’ Stones at the Ricky Tick Club, Star and Garter Hotel in Windsor, England.


Tim Scold

1964: Carl "C.J." Snare was born. He is a singer-songwriter best known for being the frontman and founding member of the band FireHouse.

1966: Tim Skold, bass, Marilyn Manson, (1998 US No.1 album, 'Mechanical Animals', UK No. 12 single, 'The Dope Show').

1968: Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" hits #1.

1968: Iron Butterfly's "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" is certified Gold.

1969: John Lennon played what would be his final ever gig in the UK when he appeared at The Lyceum Ballroom, London, with the Plastic Ono Band in a UNICEF 'Peace For Christmas' benefit. George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Delaney and Bonnie, Billy Preston and The Who's drummer, Keith Moon also took part.

1970: John Lennon's "Instant Karma!" is certified Gold.

1971: Led Zeppelin IV was riding high in the Top 10 of the US album charts. In 2006, the album was rated No.1 on Classic Rock magazine's '100 Greatest British Albums' poll, and No.1 in a poll conducted by Guitar World. The album has now sold over 23 million copies in the US. The typeface for the lyrics to Stairway to Heaven, printed on the inside sleeve of the album, was Jimmy Page's contribution. He found it in an old arts and crafts magazine from the late 19th century. He thought the lettering was interesting and arranged for a designer to create a whole alphabet

1973: Bruce Springsteen appeared at the Pinecrest Country Club, Shelton, Connecticut. Only 200 tickets were sold for the show.

1977: The Sex Pistols were refused entry into the USA two days before a scheduled NBC TV appearance. Johnny Rotten because of a drugs conviction, Paul Cook & Sid Vicious because of 'moral turpitude' and Steve Jones because of his criminal record.



1992: Incesticide is a compilation album by the American rock band Nirvana. It consists of their 1990 non-album single "Sliver", B-sides, demos, outtakes, cover versions, and radio broadcast recordings, and as such is not the official follow-up to the band's breakthrough album, Nevermind.The album was released on December 14, 1992, in Europe, and December 15, 1992, in the United States. It eventually reached number 39 on the Billboard 200.

Dance of December Souls

1993: Dance of December Souls is the first full-length album by Dance of December Souls is the first full-length album by Katatonia. The album was released on CD in 1993 by No Fashion Records and LP by Helion Records, released in the USA in 1999 by Century Black. In 2004, record label Black Lodge reissued the album with all new artwork, but the band has stated on its website that it does not support this release for personal reasons. In 2007, the album was reissued, this time under Peaceville UK with a blue version of the original cover and all five songs from the Jhva Elohim Meth.The Revival EP appended as bonus tracks. In 2010, Svart Records released a double vinyl version, which also included all songs from the EP. This album is the first release with Guillaume Le Huche as the bassist; prior to it, Anders Nyström had been contributing all guitar and bass guitar. The sound mixes the band's later style of doom metal with genres such as death metal and black metal

2000: Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher recorded a cover version of Slade's 1973 number one 'Merry Xmas Everybody' for the Christmas Day edition of the BBC1 comedy show The Royle Family.

2003: Ozzy & Kelly Osbourne went to No.1 on the UK singles chart with 'Changes' a remake of a track first sung by Ozzy on the Black Sabbath album Volume IV in 1972. It was the first father and daughter chart topper since Frank & Nancy Sinatra in 1967.


London Calling

1979: London Calling, is the third studio album by English punk rock band the Clash. It was released as a double album in the United Kingdom on 14 December 1979 by CBS Records, and in the United States in January 1980 by Epic Records. London Calling is a post-punk album that incorporates a range of styles, including punk, reggae, rockabilly, ska, New Orleans R&B, pop, lounge jazz, and hard rock.

1979: U2 appeared at the Windsor Castle Pub, Harrow Road, London, admission was free.

1979: Pink Floyd started a five week run at No.1 on the UK singles chart with'Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)' their only UK chart topper. The song, which was also the final No.1 single of the 1970s, received a Grammy nomination for Best Performance by a Rock Duo or Group, but Floyd lost to Bob Seger's Against the Wind.

1988: Robert Plant performed live at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, Ohio. Joan Jett & The Blackhearts were the opening band. Whoa! Robert Plant was touring in support of his fourth solo studio album, released in 1988: Now And Zen.


Kurt Winter

1997: Kurt Winter (guitarist for The Guess Who) dies of kidney failure at age 51.

1999: In a much-publicized show, Paul McCartney returns to play the Cavern Club in Liverpool for the first time since 1963. Joining him are Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and Deep Purple's Ian Paice.

2001: Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh was given an honorary Doctorate of Music from Kent State University in Ohio.

2003: Ozzy Osbourne reached the top of the UK Singles Chart for the first time, with a cover of Black Sabbath’s song Changes. This song was re-recorded as a duet with his daughter Kelly Osbourne.

2004: The funeral for Dimebag Darrell took place in Arlington, Texas.(Pantera) .Thousands of fans attended a memorial for late Pantera and Damageplan guitarist Dimebag Darrell in Arlington, Texas. Eddie Van Halen, Jerry Cantrell, Zakk Wylde and Dimebag’s brother Vinnie Paul were all also at the ceremony.

Motorhead, The World Is Yours

2010: Motorhead released the album "The World Is Yours".The Wörld Is Yours is the twentieth studio album by British rock band Motörhead, released as an exclusive edition, and a month later on 17 January 2011 as a standard release.It is dedicated by Lemmy to Ronnie James Dio who had died from cancer seven months earlier.
