1960: Rick Savage was born.Bass guitarist for Def Leppard is born in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England.
1963: Roy Orbison released the single "Pretty Paper".
1967: The Monkees album, "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones Ltd" went to number one in the US and was certified Gold. It was their fourth straight LP to sell over a million copies, following "The Monkees", "More Of The Monkees" and "Headquarters". Not a bad run considering The Beatles' classic "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" held the top spot for 15 weeks that year.
1967: David Bowie's single "Rubber Band" was released in the U.K.
1968: Nate Mendel (bassist for Foo Fighters) is born in Richland, Washington.
1971: Led Zeppelin release the single " Black Dog"."Black Dog" is a song by English rock band Led Zeppelin, the opening track on their fourth album (1971). The song was released as a single and reached the charts in several countries; however, as was their practice, it was not issued in the United Kingdom. The song was included in Rolling Stone's (US) "the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" and ranked No. 1 in Q magazine's (UK) "20 Greatest Guitar Tracks".
1976: Pink Floyd‘s giant inflatable pig for the Animals album cover breaks free from its moorings, and is spotted by airline pilots at thirty thousand feet in the air causing flights at Heathrow Airport to be cancelled. It finally lands on a rural farm in Kent. The pig (known as Algie), is later withdrawn from auction in 2015 due to the band’s interest in restoring it.
1978: Chris Wolstenholme, bassist of Muse, was born in Rotherham, Yorkshire, England.
1982: David Blue, who was with Bob Dylan' Rolling Thunder Revue and wrote "Outlaw Man" which the Eagles did in 1973, died of a heart attack at the age of 41 while jogging in Washington Square in New York City.

1989: Phil Collins had the new Adult Contemporary No1, with the great song "Another Day In Paradise".
2000: In Chicago, The Smashing Pumpkins played their final concert.
2001: Creed rose to the top of the Album chart with Weathered.
2003: Alice Cooper was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
2006: Glam rocker Dave Mount (drummer for Mud) dies at age 59.
2009: Eric Woolfson dies from kidney cancer in London. He was 64. Woolfson was co-creator and sometime lead vocalist of The Alan Parsons Project, singing some of their biggest hits. After his 10 albums with the Alan Parsons Project, he moved into musical theater and wrote five musicals. In total, he sold over 50 million albums worldwide.
