1959: Per Gessle, songwriter and guitarist for Roxette, was born in Halmstad, Sweden.

1963: The Beatles released "Please Please Me", which would be their first number one single in the UK.

1964: The Beatles performed "I Wanna' Hold Your Hand", "This Boy", "All My Loving", "Money" and "Twist And Shout" on the ATV show Sunday Night at the London Palladium.


Robert Bartleh Cummings

1966: Rob Zombie (Robert Cummings) of White Zombie as born in Haverhill, Massachusetts.

1968: The Doors' album Strange Days is certified gold.

1968: Pink Floyd made their debut as a five-piece band at the University of Aston in Birmingham, England.


Led Zeppelin

1969: Led Zeppelin released their debut album in the U.S. The U.K. release date was March 28. Recorded at Olympic Studios in Barnes, London, the album took only about 36 hours of studio time to complete at a cost of just £1,782, most of the tracks being recorded 'live' in the studio with very few overdubs. The album spent a total of 71 weeks on the UK chart.

1970: Zack de la Rocha, vocals, Rage Against The Machine, (1996 US No.1 album 'Evil Empire', 1993 UK No.16 single 'Bullet In The Head').

1971: Janis Joplin's album Pearl is released, three months after her death from a heroin overdose. It goes to #1 and yields her only chart-topping single, "Me And Bobby McGee."

1974: Newcomers the Steve Miller Band reached #1 with "The Joker".

1977: The Police rehearsed for the first time, with Sting and Henri Padovani on guitar, at drummer Stewart Copeland's flat in London.

1981: The Police released the single "Don't Stand So Close To Me".

1981: It was reported that the White House had expanded its record library by including albums by Bob Dylan, KISS and the Sex Pistols.

1987: Deep Purple released the album "The House Of Blue Light".The House of Blue Light is the 12th studio album by the British rock band. It's the second recording by the re-formed Mark II line-up, and the sixth studio album overall by this formation of the band.

1993: Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Doors, Sly & the Family Stone, Cream, Frankie Lymon, Dinah Washington and Etta James were all honored as new members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at the induction ceremony in Los Angeles. Van Morrison did not show up for his own induction, becoming the first and only living person not to do so.

1995: AC/DC embarked on an 11-month tour, kicking it off at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.

1995: A solid class was inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame: Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Martha & the Vandellas, Janis Joplin, Al Green, the Allman Brothers Band and Frank Zappa were accepted into the ever-expanding club.

2007: Therion released the album “Gothic Kabbalah” .


Elysium

2011: Stratovarius released the album “Elysium” . It was the last Stratovarius album to feature longtime drummer Jörg Michael.

2013: Black Sabbath, complete with their newly reunited original frontman Ozzy Osbourne, announce the upcoming release of the album 13, the first Black Sabbath album in 18 years (since 1995's Forbidden).

2018: White Wizzard released the album “Infernal Overdrive” . White Wizzard was formed in Los Angeles in the summer of 2007.

2022: Veronica Greenfield passed away at the age of 78 after a brief battle with cancer.(born Veronica Yvette Bennett; August 10, 1943), known as Ronnie Spector, was an American singer who formed the girl group "The Ronettes" in 1957 with her elder sister Estelle Bennett and their cousin Nedra Talley. Her group placed five songs on the Billboard Top 40 between 1963 and 1964, including "Be My Baby" (#2), "Baby I Love You" (#24), "The Best Part Of Breakin' Up" (#39), "Do I Love You?" (#34) and "Walking In The Rain" (#23). Her ex-husband, Phil Spector died of complications of COVID-19, on January 16, 2021 at the age of 81.
