1935: Elvis Aaron Presley is born at his parent's home, a two-room house that was built by his father at 306 Old Saltillo Road, East Tupelo, Mississippi. A twin brother, Jesse Garon Presley is stillborn.
1946: The Doors guitarist Robby Krieger is born in Los Angeles.
1947: Terry Sylvester of The Hollies is born.
1947: David Bowie (real name: David Robert Jones), singer, arranger and producer, was born in Brixton, London.
1966: The Mamas & Papas charted with their first career single "California Dreamin'".
1966: Rubber Soul becomes The Beatles' seventh #1 US album. It stays at the top for six weeks.
1974: Kiss sign their first recording deal, with Casablanca Records.
1975: Dirk Verbeuren is a Belgian musician, best known as the former drummer of Swedish melodic death metal band Soilwork. He recorded five full-length albums and a live DVD/Blu-ray with the band, and performed in Europe, the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, Russia, and China as a headlining act between early 2004 and July 2016. As of 2016, Verbeuren left Soilwork to join heavy metal band Megadeth, as a full-time member
1977: Queen reached #1 on the UK albums chart with their fifth studio album: A Day At The Races. Tie Your Mother Down and Somebody To Love are two hits that are featured on this album.
1979: Heart released the single "Dog & Butterfly".
1979: Rush are named Canada's Official Ambassadors Of Music by the Canadian government.

2013: David Bowie releases the single "Where Are We Now?," from his upcoming album The Next Day. The date of the release also coincides with his birthday. It is his first release in over a decade.
2013: Newsted released their debut EP "Metal"
2013: Notes from the Underground is the third studio album by American rap rock band Hollywood Undead. Originally set to release in Summer 2012, Notes from the Underground was released on January 8, 2013 in the United States and Canada. The album charted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with over 53,000 copies sold in its first week, making it their highest charting album to date, despite its predecessor American Tragedy selling around 67,000 copies in its first week.
