1946: Born on this day, Martin Barre, Jethro Tull, (1969 UK No.3 single 'Living In The Past').
1966: Born on this day, Jeff Buckley, US singer songwriter, (1995 album 'Grace'). His singer songwriter father Tim Buckley, died on 29th June 1975 of a heroin and morphine overdose. Jeff Buckley drowned on 29th May 1997 in Wolf River Harbor on the Mississippi River - during a spontaneous evening swim - wearing boots and all of his clothing.
1967: A 16 date UK package tour with Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, The Move, The Nice and Amen Corner played at the City Hall, Sheffield. A review in the Sheffield Star noted: 'Like an electrified golliwog, Jimi Hendrix threw himself into a live-wire act that featured his intricate guitar interpretation. Quite an Experience'. Pink Floyd also released their third single Apples And Oranges today in the UK.
1971: Bob Dylan releases Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits Volume 2.
1971: Rod Stewart and The Faces release "A Nod Is As Good As A Wink To A Blind Horse", their third LP together. The album contains the band's biggest US hit, "Stay with Me", which reaches #17, while the LP went into the US Top Ten.
1973: The Who's double album " Quadrophenia " entered the UK alboum chart at #2.
1978: Led Zeppelin recorded two takes of "All My Love" at ABBA's Polar Studios in Stockholm, Sweden for Led Zep's forthcoming album In Through the Out Door.
1979: Jethro Tull bass player John Glascock died at the age of 28, as a result of a congenital heart defect. Had also been a member of Chicken Shack.
1979: The Eagles had a stranglehold on the #1 album with their great releaseThe Long Run. Led Zeppelin was second with In Through the Out Door, Styx'sCornerstone was third .
1980: John Lennon released the album Double Fantasy. Lennon was killed three weeks after its release.
1984: Giuffria had one of the fastest-moving songs as "Call To The Heart" climbed from 82 to 66.
1986: The second studio album from Dark Angelwas released: Darkness Descends. This marked the first Dark Angel album to feature Gene Hoglan on drums. This album was also the last to feature vocalist Don Doty.
1987: Metallica issue their first home video, Cliff 'Em All, which is comprised of both fan-filmed and pro-shot live performances prior to bass player Cliff Burton's death in a tour bus accident.
1990: ZZ Top peaked at #6 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart with their tenth studio album Recycler. This was their fifth top ten album in the United States. Recycler became certified Platinum in the United States by the RIAA.
1992: Metallica release their two-part home video, A Year And A Half In The Life Of Metallica.
1992: The Freddie Mercury Album was released
1997: Accept released All Areas. It was released in Japan and the United States under the title The Final Chapter in 1998.The first 14 tracks were recorded while Accept toured supporting their 1993 Objection Overruled release, while the final six tracks were recorded during support of their 1994 Death Row offering.
1998: Jewel released the album Spirit.Spirit is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Jewel, released in 1998 by Atlantic Records. Singles include "Hands", "Down So Long", and a newly recorded version of "Jupiter", followed by a remix of "What's Simple Is True" to promote Jewel's debut film Ride with the Devil. In addition, a one-track CD containing a live version of "Life Uncommon" was released to music stores in hopes to raise money and awareness for Habitat for Humanity.
1998: The Offspring release their fourth studio album, Americana, with the hit "Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)."
2003: Let It Be... Naked, a stripped-down version of The Beatles' Let It Be album, is released. Phil Spector produced the original, and the new release removed his lavish strings and other accoutrements.
2007: The Eagles' great album Long Road out of Eden was #1.
2014: Slayer, with Exodus and Suicidal Tendencies perform at the Bricktown Event Center, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
2017: The Book of Souls: Live Chapter is a live album and video by Iron Maiden, was released today, recorded throughout their 2016–2017 The Book of Souls World Tour. The album was produced by Tony Newton, with Steve Harris serving as co-producer. This makes it the band's first live album since 2002's Beast over Hammersmith not to be produced by Kevin Shirley.
2017: The End: Live in Birmingham is a live album by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, was rleased a day like today... It features the final performance from their farewel concert tour, known as The End Tour, recorded in Birmingham, England, on 4 February 2017. Performing at the show and on the album are founding Black Sabbath members Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler. They performed with session drummer Tommy Clufetos filling in for the band's original drummer, Bill Ward, as well as keyboardist and guitarist Adam Wakeman.
