1950: Born on this day, Steven Van Zandt, (Little Steven or Miami Steve), guitarist with South Side Johnny, then Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band and Little Steven and The Disciples of Soul. Created music-industry activist group Artists United Against Apartheid as an action against the Sun City resort in South Africa, Springsteen, U2, Bob Dylan and Run DMC, collaborated on 'Sun City'. Starred as Silvio Dante in the TV Series 'The Sopranos'.
1950: Born on this day, Tina Weymouth, bass, Talking Heads, (1983 US No.9 single 'Burning Down The House', 1985 UK No.6 single 'Road To Nowhere'), Tom Tom Club, (1981 UK No.7 single 'Wordy Rappinghood').
1961: Bob Dylan recorded Man Of Constant Sorrow, "Pretty Peggy-O," "See That My Grave Is Kept Clean," "Gospel Plow," "Highway 51," "Freight Train Blues".
1963: The Beatles released their second album, "With The Beatles", in the UK. The collection featured "All My Loving", "Please Mr. Postman" and "Roll Over Beethoven" and would succeed their first L.P. in the #1 spot, giving the Fab Four a string of 51 consecutive weeks at the top of the UK album chart.
1968: The Beatles double White Album was released in the UK. Featuring 'Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da', 'Dear Prudence', 'Helter Skelter', 'Blackbird' 'Back In The USSR' andGeorge Harrison's 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'. Priced at £3.13 shillings, ($8.76), it spent eight weeks as the UK No.1 album.
1969: Iron Butterfly supported by Steel Mill, (featuring Bruce Springsteen) appeared at the Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia. The gig was held in the school's 3,500- seat Crenshaw Gymnasium.
1981: At the Checkerboard Lounge in Chicago, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards & Ron Wood joined Muddy Waters onstage during Waters’ set.
1982 : The British rock group Japan announces it is breaking up.
1985: Dokken released the album "Under Lock And Key"
1986: IronMaiden released the single Stranger In A Strange Land
1991: Alice Cooper came to the rescue of two fans; Patrick and Dee Ann Kelly, whose California home was about to be re-possessed. Patrick had painted Coopers face on the house to help sell the property. Mr Cooper signed autographs to help raise money for the couple.
1994: "The Black Album" was released by Prince.
1994: Pearl Jam released their third studio album Vitalogy, which was first released on vinyl and became the first vinyl album to appear on the US chart, since the domination of the compact disc format. They followed the release in other formats two weeks later, whereupon it became the second-fastest-selling CD in history, behind only the band's previous release Vs.
1997: INXS singer Michael Hutchence was found dead in his hotel suite in Sydney. He was 37. Hutchence body was found at 11.50am naked behind the door to his room. He had apparently hanged himself with his own belt and the buckle broke away and his body was found kneeling on the floor and facing the door. It had been suggested that his death resulted from an act of auto eroticism, no forensic or other evidence to substantiate that suggestion was found.
1999: Sonata Arctica released their debut album “Ecliptica”. It's the only album featuring bassist Janne Kivilahti.
2002: The surviving members of The Doors Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger, announced they would record and tour again with a new line up including ex- Cult singer Ian Astbury and former Police drummer Stewart Copeland.They initially tour as "The Doors of the 21st Century," but a lawsuit by original drummer, John Densmore (who declined to tour citing hearing loss), forces them to stop using the "Doors" moniker. They change their name to "Riders on the Storm" as a result of the litigation.
2003: ZZ Top performed the final concert at The Summit in Houston, TX, the group’s hometown. Their first concert at The Summit was in November 1975.
2004: Ozzy Osbourne struggled with a burglar who escaped with jewellery worth about £2m from his Buckinghamshire mansion. Osbourne told reporters that he had the masked raider in a headlock as he tried to stop him. The burglar broke free and jumped 30 ft from a first floor window. A large amount of jewellery was stolen in the raid in which two burglars were involved.
2004: U2 shot the video for 'All Because Of You' from a moving flat bed truck on the streets of Brooklyn in New York City. Later in the day, they performed a brief concert under the Brooklyn Bridge, which was taped by MTV for a later showing.
2005: Poems written by Bob Dylan in his college days sold for $78,000 (£45,000) at a New York City auction. The 16 pages of poems were the first known time Robert Zimmerman used the Dylan name and came from his studies at the University of Minnesota during 1959-60.
2005: System Of A Down released the album “Hypnotize”. Hypnotize is the fifth studio album by Armenian-American heavy metal band System of a Down. It was released , six months after the release of its companion album Mezmerize. Mezmerize and Hypnotize both debuted at number #1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, making the band one of the few to achieve this with two albums in the same year. Hypnotize was the last album System of a Down released before going on a four-year hiatus in 2006, and the band didn't release new music for more than a decade, until late 2020 when they unexpectedly released two new songs.
2010: My Chemical Romance cast themselves as post-apocalyptic outlaws fighting corruption on the mean streets of California.Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys (often referred to as simply Danger Days) is the fourth studio album by American rock band My Chemical Romance released by Reprise Records. Its songs are associated with the band's well known sound of alternative rock, pop punk, and punk rock as well as introducing new elements, including power pop, pop rock, and electronic rock. The inspiration for the album came from contemporary rock, psychedelic rock, and protopunk bands of the sixties and seventies. It was the final album released by the band before their six-year disbandment from 2013 to 2019.
2011: Riot released the album “Immortal Soul” It is the last album featuring long-time guitarist Mark Reale.
2018: The Beatles' self-titled LP, known to fans as "the white album", returned to the Top Ten of the Billboard 200 chart following its 50th anniversary reissue on November 9th. The album was ranked at #6 after selling 63,000 units.
