Tina Turner

1939: Tina Turner, (Annie Mae Bullock), Ike & Tina Turner, (1966 UK No.3 single 'River Deep Mountain High', 1971 US No.4 single 'Proud Mary'), solo, (1984 UK No.3 and US No.1 single 'What's Love Got To Do With It', plus over 25 other UK Top 40 singles).


John McVie

1945: John McVie, bass guitarist for Fleetwood Mac, was born in London.


Bert Ruiter

1946: Bert Ruiter, bass guitarist with Focus ("Hocus Pocus" from 1973), was born in Amsterdam, Holland, the Netherlands.

1955: Bill Haley's "Rock Around The Clock" becomes the first rock and roll record to hit #1 in the UK, thanks to its inclusion in the movie Blackboard Jungle.

1962: The Beatles recorded their second single ‘Please Please Me’ in 18 takes and ‘Ask Me Why’ for the flip side at EMI studio’s London. When released in the US on the Vee-Jay label, the first pressings featured a typographical error: The band's name was spelled "The Beattles".

1964: The Zombies record "Tell Her No."

1967: This was the 10th date on a 16-date UK package tour that Pink Floyd played alongside The Jimi Hendrix Experience, The Move, The Nice, The Eire Apparent, The Outer Limits and Amen Corner. Tonight's date was at the Palace Theatre, Manchester, and as with all of the dates, there were two shows per night.

1971: Faces break Led Zeppelin’s sell-out record for concert tickets for Madison Square Garden.

1971: Yes released their first album with keyboardist Rick Wakeman, " Fragile" in the U.K. They released the LP in the United States on January 4, 1972.


Fragile, YES

1974: Led Zeppelin rehearsed at Livewire Theatre in London in preparation for a tour in support of their new album Physical Graffiti.


1976: The Sex Pistols released the single 'Anarchy In The UK'. Originally issued in a plain black sleeve, the single was the only Sex Pistols recording released by EMI, and reached No.38 on the UK Singles Chart before EMI dropped the group on 6 January 1977.

1976: Lol Creme and Kevin Godley quit 10cc, leaving it a duo, and perform as Godley & Creme.

Metal Health

1983: Quiet Riot were at #1 with ‘Metal Health’ US LP.Quiet Riot Played at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Phoenix, Arizona. Quiet Riot were supporting the headliners: Black Sabbath. This was the Born Again Tour for Black Sabbath.


Benjamin Wysocki

1984: Benjamin Wysocki, drummer of the Fray, was born in Denver, Colorado.

1988: ‘Hysteria’ by Def Leppard logs its 62nd week in US Top 10, the fifth longest run for 25 years.

1988: Russian cosmonauts on Soyuz 7 took a cassette copy of Pink Floyd's album Delicate Sound of Thunder and played it in orbit.

1988: The Soundtrack to "Rattle and Hum" by U2 was still #1 on the Album chart Appetite for Destruction from Guns N' Roses was still at 3 after 66 weeks while the new Bon Jovi album New Jersey took fourth.

1989: The Rolling Stones played a concert at Death Valley Stadium in Clenson, South Carolina to help raise money for the victims of Hurricane Hugo.


1990: Chris Isaac released the great single "Wicked Game".

1994: The Eagles started a two-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with 'Hell Freezes Over.' The album name is in reference to a quote by Don Henley after the band's breakup in 1980; he commented that the band would play together again "when Hell freezes over."

2000: Manchester club the Hacienda was auctioned off raising £18,000 for charity. Oasis, Happy Mondays, U2, New Order, Stone Roses, The Smiths and James all played at the club.


Does This Look Infected

2002: Sum 41 released their third album, Does This Look Infected, which featured the singles “Still Waiting” and “The Hell Song.”


Steal This Album

2002: System of a Downput out their third effort, the Rick Rubin-produced Steal This Album.

2006: The Love Album from Westlife was #1 in the U.K.

2008: Guns N' Roses' Chinese Democracy album fails to achieve massive first-week sales numbers, and Axl Rose points the finger at Dr Pepper for not having honored its promise made back in March 2008, when the soda company had offered everybody in the US a free can of soda if Guns N' Roses released in 2008 the album which had been announced by Axl Rose for many years.


“Turning to Crime”

2021: Deep Purple released “Turning to Crime”. The new album, released by ear MUSIC, will reach the worldwide community of Deep Purple loyal fans only 15 months after Deep Purple‘s latest studio album "Whoosh! “Turning to Crime” is the first studio album by Deep Purple entirely made of songs not written by the band and previously recorded by other artists. It is their 22nd album.
