Tom Fogerty

1941: Born on this day, Tom Fogerty, guitarist, Creedence Clearwater Revival (1969 US No.2 & UK No.1 single 'Bad Moon Rising', 1970 US & UK No.1 album 'Cosmo's Factory'). Fogerty died on 6th September 1948: Alan Gratzer, drummer of REO Speedwagon, was born in Syracuse, New York.

1948: Born on this day, Alan Gratzer, REO Speedwagon, (1981 US No.1 & UK No.7 single 'Keep On Loving You').


Dennis Stratton

1954: Born on this day, Dennis Stratton, guitar, Iron Maiden, (1982 UK No.1 album The Number Of The Beast, 1991 UK No.1 single 'Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter').

1966: The Beatles announced that they would no longer perform live.

1968: Led Zeppelin played their first ever London show when they appeared at The Roundhouse, Chalk Farm on the same bill as John Lee Hooker, Deviants, John James and Tyres. Zeppelin singer Robert Plant married his girlfriend Maureen in London on this day and held the reception at the gig.

1968: Cream peaked at #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with their hit White Room. This was Cream’s second and final top ten single in the United States.


1970: Santana released the single "Black Magic Woman".

1974: Jethro Tull hits #2 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart in the United States with their seventh studio album: War Child.


The Soundhouse Tapes

1979: Iron Maiden releases their debut EP: The Soundhouse Tapes via Rock Hard Records. The three demo songs offered on this historic recording are: Side A: Iron Maiden and Side B:Invasion and Prowler. Of course, the lead vocalist on this EP is Paul Di’Anno. Yes, this is an Iron Maiden collector’s item.


The Last Command

1985: W.A.S.P. released "" The Last Command" wich is their second album . The album was produced by Spencer Proffer, who was perhaps best known for producing the six-time Platinum selling album Metal Health by Quiet Riot in 1983.

1985: Long Way To Heaven, the fifth studio album from the Canadian Heavy Metal Band, Helix, is released. This Helix album features the hits: Deep Cuts The Knife and The Kids Are All Shakin’.

1991: Queen's Greatest Hits II was the number one album in the U.K.

1991: Use Your Illusion II by Guns N' Roses was second while the debut Metallica moved up to 4.

1996: Van Halen’s first compilation album, Best of Volume I, becomes their fifth album to reach the top of the Billboard 200 Album Chart. This album spends one week at number one. Best Of Volume I goes on to sell three million copies in the United States.

1999: Saxon released the album "Metalhead" .Metalhead is their fourteenth studio album. All tracks are written by Pete "Biff" Byford, Paul Quinn, Doug Scarratt, Tim "Nibbs" Carter, except "Intro" by Nigel Glockler.
