1944: Mike Burney, Wizzard, (1973 UK No.1 single 'See My Baby Jive').
1950: Dan Peek, guitarist, keyboardist and vocalist for the group America, was born in Panama City, Florida; died in his sleep in Farmington, Missouri on July 24, 2011.
1956: Tony Bowers, Alberto Y Los Trios Paranoias and then Simply Red, (1986 US No.1 & UK No.2 single 'Holding Back The Years').
1959:The Quarry Men decided to change their name to Johnny and the Moondogs. The band were in Liverpool auditioning for the Carrol Levis show. The Quarry Men featured John Lennon, Paul McCartney, and George Harrison.
1961: Larry Mullen, drummer, U2, (1984 UK No.3 single 'Pride, In The Name Of Love' plus over 25 other UK Top singles, 1987 UK and worldwide No.1 album Joshua Tree spent 156 weeks on the UK chart. Scored five consecutive US No.1 albums from 1987.) After a street racing accident in 1984, in his ill-fated attempt to pass an Alfa Romeo in a Corvette, he was left with only one arm. However, in 1986, he returned to Def Leppard using an electronic drum kit that enabled him to play with only one arm.

1965: The Who appeared at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, England, (the bands only appearance at the club).
1967: Iggy and the Stooges made their live debut when they played at a Halloween party in Michigan.
1971: Alice Cooper released their fourth studio album, Killer, which went on to reach #21 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart. Killer eventually was certified Platinum in the United States by the RIAA.
1974: Led Zeppelin held the UK launch for their new record label Swan Song at Chislehurst Caves, Kent, England on Halloween night. Drinks were served by nuns in suspenders, a naked woman lay in a coffin covered in jelly and naked male wrestlers cavorted in recesses of the caves. Label mates Bad Company, The Pretty Things and Maggie Bell also attended. The launch also tied in with the releases of The Pretty Things new album Silk Torpedo. The label was named after an unreleased Zeppelin instrumental track.
1979: Aerosmith releases their sixth studio album:Night In The Ruts via Columbia Records. The most famous song from this album was the hit: Remember (Walking In The Sand).
1980: Graham Bonnet quits Rainbow .
1981: Frank Anthony Iero, rhythm guitarist, My Chemical Romance, (2006 UK No.1 single ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’, 2006 US No.2 album ‘The Black Parade’).
1983: The Rolling Stones released the single "Undercover of the Night".
1984: Omen released their debut album “Battle Cry”
1985: Destructor released their debut album “Maximum Destruction
1991: Nirvana released the album MTV Unplugged in New York.
1991: Iced Earth second studio album was released in Europe: Night Of The Stormrider. This fabulous album was later released in the U.S. on April 30th, 1992.
1994:Youthanasia is the sixth studio album by American heavy metal band Megadeth, released through Capitol Records. The album is not a large stylistic departure from the band's earlier recordings; however it marked the continuing evolution of Megadeth, following the footsteps of the previous album Countdown to Extinction (1992). The album's title is a play on words, implying that society is euthanizing its youth. The cover art features an elderly woman hanging babies by their feet on a seemingly endless clothes line; the artwork concept was directly inspired from a line of the title track.
1994: A greatest hits compilation titled, Big Ones was released by Aerosmith, via Geffen Records. Two previously unreleased songs are featured on this compilation: Walk On Water and Blind Man.
1996: Slash announced he was no longer in Guns N' Roses. The guitarist said that Axl Rose and he had only been civil to each other on two occasions since 1994.
2000: Winners at this years Q Awards included, David Gray, best single for 'Babylon', Oasis won best live act, Coldplay won best album for 'Parachutes', best act in the world went to Travis, Badly Drawn Boy won best new act and former Clash member Joe Strummer won the Q Inspiration award.
2008: US drummer and singer Jimmy Carl Black died. Was a member of The Keys, The Soul Giants, The Mothers Of Invention and Jimmy Carl Black And The Mannish Boys. Also worked with Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Doors, Joe Cocker, Grateful Dead and The Turtles.
2010: CradleOfFilth released the album “Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa”
2011: Thirteen (stylized as Th1rt3en) is the thirteenth studio album by American heavy metal band Megadeth. It was first released in Japan on October 27, 2011, and worldwide on November 1, 2011. It is the first Megadeth studio album since The World Needs a Hero (2001) to feature bassist and founding member David Ellefson, who returned to the band in 2010. Th1rt3en debuted at number 11 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 42,000 copies in its first week. The album broke into the top 20 in several other markets as well. It has sold about 120,000 copies in the United States as of December 2012.
2012: Metal Hammer magazine published a list of the "Top ten rock and heavy metal moustaches…Ever". The list which included moustaches worn by the likes of Frank Zappa, all the members of Black Sabbath, (except Ozzy Osbourne). James Hetfield, and Lemmy placed Freddie Mercury at the top of the list.
2014: Platinum selling musician Wayne Richard Wells, better known as WAYNE STATIC, passed away at the age of 48.Wayne Static was the enigmatic former frontman and namesake of Static-X, who later forged a successful solo career. Wayne was scheduled to co-headline tours with Powerman 5000 and Drowning Pool over the next several months.
