Unknown Elements " Rosetta West"

Rosetta West was formed in Chicago in the 1990’s by Joseph Demagore, the band’s singer, guitarist, and chief songwriter. Usually performing as a power trio, the band’s sound is dark and heavy blues rock, but also includes elements of psychedelia and acoustic tribal folk music.Lyrics frequently touch on mystical and supernatural topics.Their first few independent releases gained traction in psychedelic circles around the world, and gained praise from prominent critics and musicians. The band played many memorable shows in the Chicagoland area during this period, and made periodic forays to California, Montana, and New Orleans.

Their self-titled debut is considered a classic by many.In the early 2000’s the band released “X Descendant,” and was embraced by the garage rock movement of that time. The band scored a deal with Alive Records and toured the Midwest extensively. After another a follow-up CD in the same vein, there was an extended break, followed by several spartan and sometimes sinister tribal releases, often recorded by Demagore alone, but still under the Rosetta West flag. Shows were more infrequent in this

period but still powerful and haunting.

In late 2018, Demagore reunited with mainstay drummer Mike Weaver and recorded thealbum Magus at Chicago’s famous Gravity Studios. A combination of old and new songs with a fresh radio-ready sound (as opposed to the band’s usual home recorded vibe), Magus promised to introduce Rosetta West to a new generation of listeners. However, both band members were afflicted soon after with serious health crises, and then the Covid pandemic ensued. Plans were put on hold until 2021, when Rosetta West once again began playing shows in the Chicago area and reaching out to radio stations around the world.

The Rosetta West story continues with no end in sight, and the band sincerely hopes listeners are touched by their music in a deep way.
